Yesterday, Spotify launched its end-of-the-year feature Spotify Wrapped so that users can take a trip down the 2018 memory lane and either confirm what they already know or unearth surprises: top artists, songs, genres, and even the first song they listened to in 2018. Looking at the top artists that generated buzz in 2018, Korean boy band BTS tops the list with 22 percent share of voice, thanks to their robust fan army. Ariana Grande, who generated hits like “thank u, next,” comes in second place with 11 percent share of voice. Drake also had 11 percent share of voice, thanks to new songs like “God’s Plan” and years of popular tunes.Taylor Swift, who seems to top every year-end list regardless of what she does, also surfaces in the discussion of top artists.

What genres do people listen to? Pop is the most discussed on social. As a genre frequently played on the radio and featured in commercials, it is no surprise pop would appeal to many. Additionally, pop encompasses many subgenres. Rock and hip hop round out the top three most popular genres.

I'm actually confused by this new chart. A while back we see the number of BTS streams/fans on Spotify generally in par with Ariana, but still way below Dua Lipa. I think the pictures are in OT7 lounge, but I'm not sure. Either way, I'd say it's a successful year for BTS on Spotify, so here's wishing for a better 2019 \o/

They're talking about the artists that generated the most buzz on Spotify, like who was discussed the most. Our fandom is way more vocal than say Dua's, which is why we top the Social 50 every month and have the highest engagement rate on Twitter even far above accounts with way more followers.

That's a better explanation that I didn't pick up from the chart. That's an amazing feat; one more thing they can be proud of. :)
